After all those days of sweaty-fingered typing I am afraid of my final source.

I don't think you have anything to be afraid of.

It is a book by the person I consider the best authority on the guy whose work I am studying, very rich. Want to will myself to skim and mark pages rather than typing everything out. This morning I was reading Anthony Grafton's The Footnote and learned that writing everything out (or hiring scribes for this purpose) was basically how the great historian Ranke did it... with literal cutting and pasting and expanding a folio notebook into a quarto and then an octavo in order to fit in more commentaries. I can't imagine how producing the actual tomes that he wrote ever got done, it must have taken ages there must be more efficient modern methods of note taking.

If I go to Berlin next summer I will definitely make it a priority to spend some time with you. You always set me straight.

In the mean time there's always the internet discussion group.
