Sorry to hear this! Hopefully something else will surface, maybe even better.

I am worried no one will hire me due to the large illness-fueled gap in my resumé.

Ah man, bummer :(

That would be employment discrimination. You could sue!

It turns out they hired someone with a PhD (I asked about how the others got their qualifications). At least I don't have a PhD and have to volunteer! They said normally my qualifications would stack up well.

I did get the volunteer job at the archives, starting in August or September. This way I get to test out a possible area of employment. I never really considered museums a possible area of employment, probably because to do a good exhibition I think you'd need a PhD, and because my supervisor at the museum advised me that the academic route was more secure. Being publicly funded leaves the local museum as well as the archives vulnerable to staffing cuts.

Ha.

Congrats on the job at the archives, that's going to be pretty damn cool.

Thank you. :)

What kind of archives are they? And what will you be doing there?

It's the archives of the biggest city near where I live. They contain a mix of public and private records. I'll find out about the projects they are offering in late July.

Plus they have a whole bunch of quirky anecdotal type stuff collected by the city's first (self-appointed) archivist.

Sounds fun!
