I got to cuddle some kittens this morning. I was sad to have to leave my own snuggley cat for this endeavor, but when I came home I took him for his walk. My cat is scared of the neighbours.

Why is your cat scared of these people? So far my only contact with the new renters next door has been Farley barking at them at various times. One time it was because one of them was talking to a woman wearing a large cylindrical hat, another time was when one of them was getting stuff out of her car, and the other time was when they were in the backyard talking. I think Farley was freaked out because no one had been living next door for at least a month and suddenly there were all these noises. And here I thought getting a dog would help me meet people.

My cat is scared of people who come into our house too. He was scared of my dad when we met him outside. He's just unsure. I think he was lost or abandoned for a long time during the early part of his development and missed having regular contact with people while he was building up his map of the world.

Dogs bark, it's obnoxious and there is no known cure.

Yeah, I think Farley wasn't properly socialized as a puppy, either. I have a feeling he lived a pretty isolated puppyhood. But he's getting better, maybe. I think cats who weren't socialized are less offensive because they just run and hide, whereas dogs bark and act sketchy.

Just so long as he doesn't have really bad separation anxiety and leave little puddles on your floor he's coming out ahead of my mom's dog.
